Mercurial Tones · Research & development

MTX Labs

Original research. Musical purpose.

Mercurial Tones is powered by MTX Labs, our research and development lab in Nacka, Sweden. We develop our own digital signal processing and music technology, turning ideas about sound into tools for making music.

MTX Labs is also known as Mercurial Tones Labs, or MT Labs.

The work

Curiosity, made audible.

We explore how sound behaves, how we hear it, and how we can shape it. Our work brings together original DSP research, algorithm development and listening, with a practical goal: give musicians more possibilities.

01 / Research

Ask a better question.

Investigate the behaviour of sound and explore new approaches to audio processing.

02 / Develop

Build the idea.

Turn experiments into our own algorithms and the technology behind Mercurial Tones products.

03 / Listen

Bring it back to music.

Use measurement and listening to refine how an idea sounds and feels in practice.

From the lab

Research you can hear.

Radiance’s Adaptive Harmonic Engine grew out of original research at MTX Labs. It brings our work on saturation and harmonics into Radiance Classic and Radiance Multiband.
